Germaine Bennett

Mrs. Germaine Bennett is the newest director for The Mahoning Valley Sanitary District. Mrs. Bennett was appointed by Youngstown’s mayor, Jamael "Tito" Brown, in May of 2020.

Germaine had a career in education for thirty-eight years.  She held the position of an elementary teacher, principal and retired from Youngstown City Schools as the assistant superintendent of human resources and labor relations.

Germaine holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Central Missouri State University, a master’s degree in counseling from Youngstown State University and an educational specialist degree in educational administration from Kent State University.

She has served and chaired numerous boards.  Germaine presently serves on the following Boards:   Youngstown City Scape Board; Mercy Health Foundation Board in Cincinnati, Vice Chair; Commissioner of The Mill Creek Metro Parks, Vice Chair; Community Corrections Association past board Chair; Youngstown Bon Sequor Mercy Health Market Board. She is also a member Youngstown Alumni chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, the Youngstown Junior Civic League, and the New Century Club.

Germaine’s church home is Tabernacle Baptist Church, Pastor Raymond Austin, Youngstown, Ohio.   She is originally from Gary, Indiana and has been a resident of Youngstown for over fifty years.  Germaine and her husband Julius have three children and eight grandchildren.
